A U.S. Army guard holds an Iraqi detainee on "death row" while taking him out for two hours of recreation at the Camp Cropper detention center September 20, 2007 in Baghdad, Iraq. The detainee, first detained by U.S. forces, was later tried by an Iraqi criminal court for murder and sentenced to death, and he is now being held by U.S. forces at Camp Cropper until his execution by Iraqi authorities. He is currently one of three convicted Iraqis with such status at Camp Cropper awaiting execution. The U.S. military has some 25,000 detainees in custody in Iraq, accused of anti-coalition activity as well as criminal acts.
