Signs against the death penalty are seen at the 15th Annual Fast and Vigil to Abolish the Death Penalty in front of the Supreme Court in Washington on July 2, 2008. Organized by the Abolition Action Committee (ABA) and the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty (NCADP), the event commemorates the historic 1972 Supreme Court ruling that suspended the death penalty in the United States. Four years later the court ruled that executions could resume.
