Tavarus Smith fills his truck up at a cost of $700 at a filling station June 10, 2008 in Milford, Connecticut. Trucks have been hit especially hard with the rise in the price of fuel, jeopardizing the livelihood of many independent truck owners. Connecticut has some of the nation's highest gas prices where according to the AAA, the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in Connecticut on Sunday was $4.296 per gallon, the highest in the region and second highest in the country behind California.
