Fears of a looming rice shortage were heightened today as rice prices climbed to record highs on the back of rising demand, export bans and bad weather delaying planting in the US. Asian prices have soared even more sharply as big importers have rushed to build stocks on fears supplies will become scarce as exporters clamp down on shipments.
