The Sommelier Robot is seen at Shunpuan on March 9, 2008 in Kyoto, Japan. The robot has been developed jointly with NEC System Technologies and Mie University, and is able to identify the brand of wines and the taste by transmitting infrared rays at the bottle and thus recommend which dish would suit the wine. Guinness World Record entered the robot as "First Robot Sommelier" into their 2008 edition.
