VIDEO: Healthcare Rally in Los Angeles — Aug 13th 2007
In an earlier post, NewsQuake
covered the groundswell of support for California's Senate Bill 840 (SB 840), the Universal Healthcare Act. But that story is far from over. On August 11, the OneCareNow campaign hosted the biggest rally for universal healthcare in U.S. history. Several luminaries spoke in support of SB 840, which is cosponsored by State Senator Sheila Kuehl. Click on the first photo below to view the highlights of this historic gathering.
Among those speaking at the rally was actress Lily Tomlin, who delivered a routine in persona of her character "Ernestine" that was written expressly for the event. Click on the photo below to play video.

1. When will people wake up and realize that 'nothing is free'?
Do they think that the money for this 'universal healthcare' is just going to pop out of thin air?
Wake up, people. Our taxes are going to go through the roof if 'universal health' care happens nation-wide.
If you want better healthcare, work and earn your better healthcare. God never meant for us to be moochers.
Do you know someone who needs help? Then personally help them. Why do you need a law to force you to help others?
Wake up, America. Socialism is taking hold while you play with your toys.

2. Powerful Videos -Thanks Alexia.
Its time that we hold all of the 2008 Presidential Candidates accountable on this subject. Recent polls have shown 'Health Care' as being among the top 5 issues that concerns Americans the most. Lets put the wedge issues that purposely divide people aside during this election cycle and lets discuss and debate the real issues that confront everyday citizens.

4. Why don't people understand what a MESS would be created by a Universal HealthCare system run by the Federal Government - We don't think they handle Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid, the Perscription plan, Amtrak, the Post Office efficiently or productively - YET many listen to the elite promoting a HealtCare system they themselves will never use - BECAUSE they have the resources to have Doctors on Call! Thiink aoub the Tax monies that will be needed to provide Universal HealthCare - do people really think that everybody will get a transplant when they need it OR all the medicines they want OR even be able to choose what doctor they want - ASK those countries who hav eit already what problems they are now facing, since its so wonderful and LOOK at howq much it cost them AND that lack of service, espceially immediate service which Americans always demand - Universal HealthCare might work if a private comopany operates it - NOT WASHINGTON - then they'll have even more control over our lives then they do NOW!!! THINK LONG AND HARD BECAUSE WHEN/IF IT STARTS IT WILL NEVER ENED - AND THE COST WILL BE UNBEARABLE!!!

7. I have thought long and hard...thank you! I work very hard. I pay taxes that frankly should go toward my healthcare. And if I need to pay a small percentage towards Universal Healthcare, as stated in SB840, that's fine. Instead, I pay a private insurance company way too much and they decide what treatments I receive, while making a profit on my medical insurance payments. It is time to cut the middle man out (i.e. health insurance businesses)of the equation and simply take care of the people in this country. Please read more about the SB840 and perhaps you'll see why it's a necessary direction for California (as well as the country) to take.
